30x30 Online Challenge

DAY 1           Neighborhood Park in the Fall

DAY 1           Neighborhood Park in the Fall

Just what does "30x30" mean?

Well, for artists it means painting 30 paintings in 30 days. Yes, it is a challenge!  I signed up for an online 30x30 with the inspiring and successful artist Leslie Saeta. She organizes this online 30x30 in January and artists all over the world sign up. Leslie sets this free online 30x30 to encourage and help artists to paint regularly and improve. It is up to each artist to paint each day or not. I signed up to get in the habit of painting much more then I have been and to improve my skills. Here is my small 4"x6" pastel painting for DAY 1

Plein Air Pastel Painting

Plein Air Pastel Painting of Salt Pond

My Plein Air Pastel Painting

Plein Air is a French expression which means "in the open air" and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors.

While on summer vacation last summer I found the perfect spot to do some plein air painting - Salt Pond in Bethany, Delaware. I set up my easel and supplies along the water and began to paint. It took me a little while to get used to painting outside with the breeze blowing my paper and the insects flying around distracting me. Once I got the paper taped down and got adjusted to my surroundings I began enjoying the painting experience. I loved seeing how brilliant the colors of the environment were and tried to paint with the same vibrancy. Since that time I have enjoyed painting other scenes. Give it a try!
